David Phelps, Butler, Hughes & Hayes in concert

David Phelps and Butler, Hughes & Hayes will be in concert at Central Baptist Church in Dunn on Saturday, March 21, at 6 p.m. A graduate from Baylor University, Phelps has received high praise for his singing voice and vocal range. For more than 15 years, Phelps served as a member of the Gaither Vocal Band, and during that time received numerous Dove Awards, Grammy Awards and multiple platinum-selling recording projects.

As a solo artist, he received 2009 Dove Award nominations for Male Vocalist of the Year and Long Form Video for the Christmas DVD, “O Holy Night,” to add to his many awards and honors. Phelps’ 2012 live concert DVD, “David Phelps: Classic,” debuted on Billboards’ Music Video Chart at No. 1 and since its release has received acclaim from throughout both gospel and secular music genres. The recording has been featured on numerous television networks, including the Public Broadcasting System. In 2015, he released the recording, “Freedom.” The “Freedom” companion DVD also debuted at No. 1 on Billboards’ Music Video Chart. Most recently, in April of 2017, “The Best of David Phelps: from the Homecoming Series,” peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Music Video Sales Chart, topping such video releases as The Beatles’ “Eight Days A Week” and Eric Clapton’s “Live In San Diego,” as well as Adele’s “Live At The Royal Albert Hall.” That same week, Phelps’ “Freedom” video sat in the top 20.

In 2017, he released his latest recording, “Hymnal.” Throughout the recording, Phelps lends his artistry to popular hymns.

Growing up in a musical family, his natural gift for song was evident when he was very young. Even as he sang in church as a teenager, Phelps knew that he wanted to be a performer. At the age of 18, while earning his degree in vocal performance from Baylor University, he began what would be a life-long passion of traveling around the world to share music, inspiration and good news. While studying music at Baylor, David met Lori Purtle, his wife and partner in his career for more than two decades. The couple has four children – Callie, Maggie Beth, Grant and Coby – and the Phelps family resides on their farm outside Nashville, Tennessee.

Butler, Hughes & Hayes

In 2006, Lamar Butler, Darren Hughes, and Michael Hayes learned a song to sing together in the Easter production of their home church, Central Baptist. With no intentions of starting a group, the guys learned another song and then another, to sing as “specials” at church. Word got out and other churches began asking them to sing at their Homecomings and 5th Sunday Sings. A full calendar and a few years later, God added Matt Parker singing bass. Fast forward to today — after having opportunities to minister in hundreds of churches and auditoriums with some of their heroes like Bill and Gloria Gaither, Brian Free & Assurance, Greater Vision and Mark Lowry, BHH has recorded music to share their music with a larger audience garnering them songs that have charted nationally. Although BHH loves to sing together and share their talents throughout the community, music is not their priority. God has, however, gifted them and given them a platform to share what it truly means to be a Christian and to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is their goal as men of God, fathers, husbands, and ministers of the Gospel through the medium of music.

Central Baptist Church is located at 6050 Plain View Highway, 4 miles south of Dunn on U.S. Highway 421. Tickets are available at iTickets.com, by calling 1-800-965-9324 or at Central Baptist Church.
