Lady Camels make 1st NCAA Tourney appearance

March 12, 2000, coach Wanda Watkins and the Campbell women's basketball team were greeted by school officials and locals to celebrate history.

The Lady Camels had just defeated Georgia State, 66-49, to win the Trans America Athletic Conference Championship, earning the program's first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance.

"This is something I have dreamed about a long time," Watkins told The Daily Record following the victory.

"This is a very special group of girls. I am very proud of how they have worked."

Campbell guard Sara Moore earned all-tournament honors by posting a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds, in the title game.

The Lady Camels ended with seven straight wins for a 22-8 overall record.
